I was riding around looking the country over this morning when this old fence post caught my eye. It brought back some of the memories of trying to keep your fences up and the cows in. It looks like a tree limb was brought from home to prop up the fence till you could get a new one.
Most of the old original post were made out of cedar which is hard and doesn’t rot easily. This one had lost its wire but not its character.
The post was hanging on even though it had broken in the middle. Now that show true West Texas determination. You can’t be giving up the first time something breaks in this country.
As I went on down the way I found this group of post had been washed out over the years, but still had the barbwire holding them together. You can see the new type of fence that has been installed to replace it. Not many new cedar post fences being put in any more.
This corner post was an interesting set up. The old stump was just worked right in like was just a normal part of the fence. We learn to make do with what we have as we get older.
This is closer to what the original post looked like when they were new. The outside is cracked and aged, but it still gets its job done. This is a testament to how the people of the area have fared while seeing it become what it is today.
Well enough of my rambling, but I do believe life is what you make of it along with the scares life sends our way. Have a good Forth of July and remember those who helped make it happen. John Tucker

Old fence post like their old owners, have creator all their own.
Many of our old relics in this country are a testament to people and how they have endured in this area.
